Monday, December 20, 2004 On Friday's show, Katie and Henry ran into Mike and Jen at Metro. After Henry excused himself, Katie received a phone call from "Simon," who was really Henry impersonating Simon. Katie hands the phone to Mike because "Simon" wants to wish him a Merry Christmas. Mike takes the phone and says hello, a little confused. "G'day, mate. I hear you're out on the town with my little missus," says Henry. "Yeah, she's here with Henry. We just ran into each other," explains Mike. "No worries, mate. I knew you'd connect eventually," says Henry. "Sure thing. Well, it's good talking to you, Simon. Here's Katie," says Mike, trying to get off the phone. "Hang on a minute, Mike. I'll ask you a favor," says Henry. Mike asks what kind of favor, and Henry says that he needs his help with the holidays and Katie. "I'm not sure what I could do that might be of any kind of help," says Mike. "Look, guess she didn't tell you, poor kid. Her brother's gone missing and if that weren't bad enough, Tom and Margo are separated," explains Henry. "Yeah, I was sorry to hear about all that. But I'm still not seeing where I fit in," says Mike. "Well, you know how much she loves the holidays. I'd hate to think of her spending them all alone, no one to celebrate with. She needs to get out, spend time with friends, deck the halls and that sort of thing," he says. "Well I think she's got that covered. She's here at Metro with Henry," answers Mike. "Ah, yeah, good old Henry. Give you the shirt off his back. You know that bloke, he's all work and no play. He'll probably be wheeling and dealing," says Henry. "Are we talking about the same Henry Coleman?" asks Mike. "Just do a pal a favor here. Just keep an eye on Katie. Spend time with her, keep her mind off things till I can get there to do the job myself," says Henry. Mike asks "Simon" when he's coming to Oakdale, and Henry answers, "Uh, yeah... I'm tied up with business here at the... sheep station. I don't think I can get there till after the first of the year." "That long, huh?" asks Mike. "I hope it's not an imposition, mate," says Henry. "Not at all. It's just -- why me?" wonders Mike. "I trust you, mate. There's no hard feelings, are there? Between you and Katie?" asks Henry. "No, not at all. Everything worked out for the best," Mike assures him. "Brilliant. Glad to hear it. Well, just think about it, mate. I know you'll make the right decision. And merry, merry, mate," says "Simon," signing off. Mike hands the phone back to Katie. "Thanks. Hey, you spent all your time talking to Mike and didn't give anything to me. I miss you, baby," she gushes. "Yeah, I hope I didn't lay it on too thick," says Henry. "Oh, no. That's what I love about you most," says Katie sweetly. "Well, just another award-winning performance by yours truly," brags Henry. "You're the sweetest," agrees Katie. "You can pay me back by plying me with martinis," says Henry. "I love you, too. All right. Bye, sweetie," says Katie, hanging up. Henry joins Katie, Mike, and Jen in the bar. "Hey, sorry about that. I ran into an old business acquaintance at the bar and the guy just does not know when to quit. So, what did I miss?" Katie reports that Simon called and spent most of the time talking to Mike. "Oh, has Katie had a chance to debrief you?" asks Henry innocently. Mike says he just said hello and happy holidays. Mike and Jen say their good-byes and leave Metro. "How do you like that? They invite us for drinks and don't even buy a round," complains Henry as they head over to the bar. "Oh, never mind that. So, what did my big, strong husband say to Mike?" asks Katie. "He asked him to keep an eye on the little woman since he couldn't be there on the holidays to do it himself," reports Henry. "Very good. And what did Mike say?" asks Katie. "No promises. No refusals," says Henry. "Well, what could he say with Jennifer breathing down his neck?" notes Katie. "You know, Bubbles, I've actually spent some time with Jennifer and I think you should know that..." begins Henry. Katie hits him and says, "Unless the next sentence out of your mouth is, 'she's totally wrong for Mike and doesn't stand a chance,' shut it." "Ow! That hurt," whines Henry. "Whose side are you on?" asks Katie. "I am on your side, of course. You know that. I just thought that in the interest of full disclosure, you should know that Jen is actually... nice," says Henry. "Well, I don't care if she's next in line for the Nobel Peace Prize. Her time is up. Mike is about to go back where he belongs," declares Katie. Katie joins Henry at a table with two martinis. "Okay, so tell me one more time. What exactly did Mike say when you asked if there were any hard feelings between us?" she asks. "For the fifth time, he said no. How many times do I have to replay this conversation?" asks Henry impatiently. "As many as I need to hear it," answers Katie. "Well, then I'm gonna demanding residuals, Katie," says Henry. "I just need to know exactly what he's thinking, exactly what he's feeling. Especially if he's still angry about the way I left things. No hidden resentment?" she asks. "None that I can tell, he's all yours," says Henry. Katie asks about Jennifer. "Yeah, well, we were the four musketeers. It was Mike, me, Jennifer and her sister, Nikki," says Henry. "So? What's so great about Jennifer Munson?" asks Katie. "Oh, nothing. I mean, some people might consider her classy, and sophisticated, and smart, comely... but not me," insists Henry. "And nice? You said earlier that she was nice?" asks Katie. "Yes, and nice. Now what's the matter? Are you afraid of a little competition?" taunts Henry. "Oh, please. Not one bit," smiles Katie. Katie checks her phone. "Still no message from Mike, huh?" guesses Henry. "He's doing the strong, silent thing. He just doesn't want to seem too eager," says Katie. She assures him Mike will call tomorrow. "That's it. Okay. I understand the fairer sex about as well as I do Chinese algebra. What is your secret, Katie? How do you know?" asks Henry, bewildered. "Well, I asked Mike what Simon said on the phone. And what did Mike say?" asks Katie. "Nothing," replies Henry. "Exactly. Because Jennifer was standing right there. And he didn't want her to know the truth," theorizes Katie. "I'm still foggy," says Henry. "If he wasn't planning on following through, he would've said something. The fact that he said nothing means everything," says Katie cryptically. "I'm sorry I ever doubted you, Bubbles," admires Henry. "And I'm sorry I ever let Mike go. Thank God I came to my senses. Poor Jennifer. Oh well, you know what they say. Nice girls finish last," says Katie with a devilish look in her eye as she sips her martini. Today’s episode was directed by Chris Goutman and written by Lynn Martin.
