Thur On today's show Henry makes a deal with Jake to spy on Emily and find out if she's the one behind Molly's threatening phone calls. As Henry says, "I can be bought, but I'm not cheap!" Jake and Henry are at the Lakeview bar, continuing their discussion of the Intruder. Henry is trying to figure out what Jake wants, telling him, "If you want to confer on sources, I confess, half of mine come from other planets." Jake tells Henry that he doesn't think the Intruder is trash, he has a new respect for it. Especially with the new backing, Craig Montgomery, the "international player." Henry asks if Jake knows Craig and he responds, "not yet." He observes that Craig's "take no prisoners business style is going to be right up your ally." Henry says that it's nice to be understood. Jake asks Henry if he will introduce him to Craig at the Halloween party, which is sure to be the who's who of the rich and famous of Oakdale. But why the 20's theme, is Craig a history buff? Henry impatiently answers that he doesn't know him all that well, and why doesn't Jake get down to business. Jake's had a long day, he's a busy man, but here he is buying Henry drinks! Jake responds, "It's customary to take the new members of the fourth state out and get them so sloshed they won't be able to write their editorial." "Well, I'll never get so sloshed that I forget that you and Molly tried to expose me not too long ago. So tell me, what do I have that you could possibly want?" Jake tries to flatter Henry and he asks if he's trying to lure him away from the Intruder. "Let me warn you about something. I can be bought, but I'm not cheap!" Jake didn't think he would be, but he has an opportunity for him. "For me? The guy your girlfriend claims sold some compromising photos to this very publication?" Jake asks if that was personal, and Henry says no, it was business, he was just trying to protect his investments at WOAK. Well, says Jake, "It's just that kind of cool objectivity that makes you perfect for this job!" Henry asks where this job is, and Jake tells him it's close to home, keeping an eye on "dear, complicated Emily." Jake says he knows Emily is up to something, and Henry can deliver the goods on her. "For a handsome fee, of course," Henry tells Jake. Jake agrees and Henry says, "Talk to me, McKinnen." After Jake explains the situation (off camera), Henry asks, "Why all the cloak and dagger routine? Why not just nail Emily yourself and be done with it?" Jake explains that he has confronted Emily about it, but "she's smoother than 50 year old scotch." Henry suggests that maybe she was telling the truth. Jake offers him $500, and Henry asks why he should jeopardize his career with Craig to go undercover for him? Jake responds that it's short-term, and Craig doesn't have to know. Even if Henry doesn't get any information? Jake assures Henry that he will pay him to do the leg work, as long as he doesn't jerk him around. Convinced, Henry agrees, "Well, for these duckets she'll get my best work!" He says he'll give Jake a report before the party, and Jake tells him he better get it before then.
