Wedne

After more than a month's absence, Henry returns to Oakdale to work for Craig at the Intruder, much to Katie and Emily's dismay.

Craig is having a business meeting with Emily and Chris at the Lakeview restaurant, and Katie is sitting outside in the lobby. She puts on airs and asks for a glass of spring water with a twist of lemon. A few minutes later a hand gives her a glass, which she takes a sip of and complains that it's tap water. She gives it back ad the hand gives her a second glass, which she gives back because it doesn't have any lemon. The hand passes her a third glass, with lemon, and she takes a sip. She makes a face and coughs, screaming, "This is gin, are you a moron?" She looks up to see Henry, who says, "Hello Katie, long time no see!"

Henry tells Katie that the bartender let him fill in, and notices that "you haven't lost your winning ways with the little people, I see."  Katie asks him what he's been up to the last couple of months, besides bartending. "No wait, don't tell me, I bet you've been clawing your way to the top on the back of some other innocent girl!" No, Henry says, he's been in Hollywood, "pitching a story about a very greedy little girl with no gratitude." Katie asks, did they bite, and Henry says no, the story was too common. Katie tells him he failed, and Henry responds, "Maybe so, but at least I did so from the plush seat of my rented Jag. You, on the other hand, went boom in front of family and friends." "Out of the ashes the phoenix rises. I've landed very well on my designer heels, thank you very much!" "As what, a high priced call girl?" Katie tells Henry that the night of the Endicott Awards was the start of something huge for her, that she's now working for her very wealthy and well connected brother and is a "soon to be player." Henry asks her what she does and Katie makes up some impressive tasks that she has yet to perform. Henry tells her that things are really coming up roses for her, but doesn't she miss being WOAK's "anchor girl?" Katie denies it and insist that she will be a millionaire by the time she's 30. Henry observes, "Guess it must cut into the time allotted for your first love, I refer of course to the Holden fixation." Katie brushes him off, saying she has no time now for romance with her busy, powerful career. Henry happily observes, "See, that's what I was trying to tell you all along!" Katie's cell phone rings and she doesn't answer it, so Henry tells her "your purse is ringing." She says it's not important, she'll call them back. But Henry grabs her purse and answers the phone, while Katie hits him and tries to get it back. Henry gives her the message from the dry cleaner, and observes, "Wow, you've really gone full circle, Katie, back to your days as a gopher. That's a fitting justice!" Katie retorts, "At least I am on the fast track, and you are on the lonely track to nowhere!" Henry announces that he has another job, right here in Oakdale!

Henry is playing with his palm pilot and tells Katie, "So stop by my office sometime, sweet cakes, I'm sure even busy venture capitalists like yourself get a lunch break, when you're not picking up dry cleaning."  Katie tells him she can't believe some idiot hired him when everyone knows that he was behind the WOAK scandal. "Well, fortunately, I found an employer who values strategic gifts." "Is he brain dead, or just a glutton for punishment?" Henry's alarm goes off and he leaves to "meet the boss," giving Katie a kiss on the head as he goes. Alone, Katie wonders, "How does he do it? How does he always land on his feet? Maybe it's a lie, maybe it's not. Who would be dumb enough to hire Henry?!"

Meanwhile, in the restaurant, Craig is telling Emily and Chris that he has hired a new managing editor for the paper. Describing the new editor he says, "When it comes to selling papers, when it comes to exposing the sleaze beneath the veneer of Oakdale, my new hire has an iron clad stomach. He will go for the jugular." In walks Henry, the Intruder's new managing editor.

Chris complains that Henry would rat on his own grandmother. Craig says that's exactly why he hired him, and Henry says, "I like you too Chris." Emily tells Craig, "A pet shark like Henry can bit both sides, Craig.  He was thick as thieves with your sister at WOAK. It was his scheming that set her up to be drawn and quartered at the Endicott Awards."  Craig explains, "Your personal opinion of Henry is neither here nor there. We need a carnivore, someone without a sentimental attachment here in Oakdale to make him soft." Chris declares that he is not going to work for Henry, he used the paper to ruin his life. He storms out.
Emily tells Craig he can't force her to do this, and he threatens to sell the paper back to the Stenbeck estate.  Meanwhile, Henry starts eating and asks Craig to pass the salt. Emily asks, "How am I supposed to run a business with my hands tied behind my back?" "That's why Henry's here, to free your hands, see?" Craig suggests they put the personal aside and do some business. He leaves and Emily tells him, "Well, you know where you can go." Henry suggests they  toast "to a fantastic and inevitable success." Emily dumps her drink in his lap!

On his way out of the restaurant, Craig stops to talk to Hal, who tells him that he and Henry "seem to be a marriage made somewhere way south of heaven!"

Henry asks Emily, "Just let me speak, OK? and then if you wanna waste another drink you can just toss this into my face, if you're so inclined." He asks her to give him 5 minutes, and she says she'll give him 2. Henry tells Emily that he's read every issue of the Intruder and he's "bowled over" by it. He doesn't want to change anything, but to continue moving in the same direction. The Intruder "is not a gossip rag, it is a tool for keeping people honest." He says that Emily's charm, beauty, and savvy are their biggest assets, and he wants to use them. He wants the paper to be young, hip, "It's not happening if it's not in the Intruder!" Emily seems flattered and says that she likes his ideas, except for one thing. The Intruder is her paper and she runs the
show, Henry will never make any important decisions! She storms out and Henry says "Well, staff meeting dismissed."

Henry is sitting at the bar, going through an issue of the Intruder. "'Woman gives birth to alien twins,' how many times has this story been rehashed?" Jake walks in and observes, "Not exactly the New York Times, huh?" "Or the City Times, Jake." Jake says, "Woah, I come in peace" and tells Henry that he's read the press release about the Intruder.  And Henry admits that the Intruder is "a rag, I know what the Intruder is. We all know what it is. Sleaze masquerading as..." "Better sleaze." Henry insists that he will make it better, sharper, edgier.

Jake tells Henry that he's always believed Henry is resourceful, and Henry says that thanks to him the ratings at WOAK went through the roof.  "But the powers that be didn't allow me to show half of my talent at that station." [How true!] Jake says that that is why he's going to refill Henry's martini!
