It's the morning after the big accident and Aaron has come over to the cottage to fix Margo's car.  He thinks Katie ran into a tree and doesn't want her sister to know about it.  But it was really Mike she hit, and she's trying to hide the evidence.  She thanks a clueless Aaron for saving her life, and insists on paying him.

Henry and Katie are returning to the cottage after inspecting the car.  "Man, that Snyder kid is a wizard.  I'd never look at the front of that car and guess it was wrapped around Mike Kasnoff," admires Henry.  Katie, however, is not as pleased.  "I should not have had that car fixed, I've tampered with evidence."  "No, no, what you did was buy yourself some time, time to think," says Henry.  "Time to think?  I hit Mike with Margo's car!" says Katie.  Henry reminds her that it was an accident.  "I could've killed him!" counters Katie.  "Right.  And since prosecutors tend to take a dim view of people getting drugged up on prescription meds and running over pedestrians, there is no way I'm letting you take the stand!" insists Henry.  Katie laments that she should have told Margo when she had the chance.  "Why, so you can make license plates for the next twenty to forty?" asks Henry.  Katie still believes she has to find a way to tell Mike.  Henry asks her what good that would do.  "When you're all broken up it helps to know the truth, I've been there," says Katie.  "Yes, but a broken heart is different than broken ribs," Henry points out.  Katie insists that she has to come clean with Mike and then Margo.  She asks Henry to drive her to the hospital and then drop off Margo's car.  Henry reluctantly agrees but gives it one last try.  "I wish, I implore you to rethink the whole truth-telling thing.  Jail is no fun."  "I've just lost my husband, I almost killed the one guy who was just trying to care about me.  Do you know how terrible I feel?  Do you?" asks Katie.  "Compared to this hell, jail seems like a great option."

At the hospital, Katie again tells Mike this is all her fault.  She tries to tell him what she means by that, but is unable to.  Katie offers to be Mike's nurse/housekeeper since he'll be in recovery for a while, but he refuses.  Katie leaves Mike's room and pulls out her cell phone.  Henry approaches, and Katie tells him she was just about to call him.  "You've got that determined look, where are the tears, Katie?  Did you tell Mike the truth?" asks Henry.  "I couldn't, you were right," admits Katie.  "Glory be and hallelujah.  Right about what?" asks Henry.  "If I told Mike that I was the one driving the car that hit him, it would only make him feel worse," explains Katie.  "Now we're talking!" encourages Henry.  "He'd probably think I did it on purpose," says Katie sadly.  Henry assures her he wouldn't think that.  "I doubted myself, why wouldn't Mike?" wonders Katie.  "You don't really want me to answer that, do you?  OK, what's that new look of resolve you're wearing?" asks Henry.  "I've made a decision," declares Katie.  "Since it's my fault Mike's life has been torn apart, it's up to me to put it back together again.  And that's exactly what I'm gonna do."

Today’s episode was directed by Ellen Wheeler and written by Judy Tate.

Katie: You all finished?

Aaron: Yup. Took a while, but I installed a new light, knocked out that dent. She's as good as new.

Katie: Well, I'm sorry you had to come all the way out here just to help me out with this stupid mess.

Aaron: Look, it's no problem.

Katie: Well, you've been a godsend. Thank you so much, Aaron. How much do I owe you?

Aaron: Oh, nothing. No, I scored the new light at the junkyard. And I can drop the old one off there, too.

Katie: Oh, well -- no, I can do that for you.

Aaron: All right, thanks. Look, I can help you out tomorrow if you need anything else. But work just called -- I gotta split.

Katie: Okay. Well, I would hug you and --

Aaron: No, no, no, no, no.

Katie: No, seriously, Aaron, please. Take it as a tip. You really did save my life.

Aaron: Okay, thanks. You know, but I can think of a hundred different things that are worse than crashing your sister's car into a tree.

[ Katie remembering -- car horn blaring ]

Katie: Oh, my god!  Oh, my god, I hurt someone tonight.

Aaron: Anyway, Katie, it's perfect now. Nobody will have a clue that you got into an accident.

[ Katie sighs ]

Henry: Man, that Snyder kid is a wizard. I'd have never looked at the front end of that car and guessed it had been wrapped around Mike Kasnoff.

Katie: I should not have had that car fixed, Henry. I've just tampered with evidence.

Henry: No, no, what you did was you bought yourself some time to think.

Katie: Time to think about what? I hit Mike with Margo's car.

Henry: Yeah, but -- accidentally.

Katie: He could have been killed.

Henry: Right. Right, and since prosecutors tend to take a dim view of people getting drugged up on prescription meds and just running over pedestrians, even by accident, there is no way I'm gonna let you take the witness stand.

Katie: Oh, I should have just told Margo what happened when I had the chance.

Henry: Why, why? So you could be making license plates for the next 20 to 40?

Katie: I have to tell Mike, too. I have to find a way.

Henry: No -- why, why? What good would that do? What?

Katie: Because when you're all broken up, it helps you to learn the truth. Let me tell you, I've been there.

Henry: Okay, you've been there, right. But a broken heart is different from broken ribs.

Katie: I don't care. I have to come clean with this.

Henry: But -- Katie --

Katie: With him and then Margo, okay? Will you just take me to the hospital and then drop Margo's car off, please?

Henry: Sure. Sure. Look, I really wish that -- I implore you to rethink this whole truth-telling thing, okay? Jail is no fun.

Katie: I just lost my husband, Henry. I almost killed the one guy who was just trying to care about me. Do you know how terrible I feel? Do you? Compared to this hell, jail seems like a great option to me.

Mike: He just hit me, Katie, and left me there. Probably drunk out of his mind. Or he's just an idiot. You know, he didn't care that I had a job or a life.

Katie: Maybe he was scared.

Mike: What?

Katie: I mean -- you know, when terrible things happen, people freak out, they don't think clearly.

Mike: No, no, no, he saw me. At least a split second before he plowed into me, he slammed on his brakes.

Katie: I'm so sorry.

Mike: He had to know I was there.

Katie: I'm so sorry.

Mike: No, you know what? I'm sorry. You know, you go, and you bring me flowers and stuff, and I'm dumping all this on you.

Katie: No, I did this to you Mike, I deserve it.

Mike: What are you talking about?

Katie: Well -- you know, you were just trying to care for me, and I got so mad at you, and -- I said I wished you were dead.

Mike: Oh, no, none of this is your fault. I put you in a really awkward position. You know, spouting off about how much I loved you. And, you know, I know what you've been going through. And I know that whenever you see me, you think about me letting Simon die.

Katie: No, I --

Mike: And you hate me for it.

Katie: I don't. I wish to god I had never said that, Mike.

Mike: No, you were just telling the truth, you know? And I wouldn't expect any less -- anything less from you. But, you know, I don't want you trying to pretend like we're friends again just because I'm laid up. In fact, I really wish you wouldn't. Thank you -- thank you for coming by, but don't come back.

Katie: No, Mike, please don't say that.

Mike: I understand. I understand. I really do.

Katie: I only wish you did. Wait -- when you leave here, are you going back to the lake house?

Mike: I guess.

Katie: The front step. What are you gonna do? You're gonna be in a wheelchair.

Mike: Ben says I'll need to hire somebody -- like a combination cook/physical therapist/driver.

Katie: Is your insurance gonna cover that?

Mike: Yeah, right.

Katie: Then use me. Please, Mike. I will work for you for free.

Mike: I am not hiring you to be my nurse.

Katie: Why not? I work in a hospital.

Mike: I don't want you to take care of me.

Katie: Why not let me do it?

Mike: Because -- because I love you. I mean, don't you see? Whenever I look at you, I just see this beautiful, bright, funny woman that I adore. And I want you -- in my heart, in my life. And I can't have that. And I'm not gonna settle for some well-meaning substitute.

Katie: Just be practical, Mike. I'm offering you three meals a day and clean sheets. Just let me do this, please.

Mike: Thank you. But, no.

Ben: I'm going to need a moment alone with Mike. Hey, what was that about?

Mike: We were just saying good-bye.

Henry: Hey, hey.

Katie: Oh, god. I was about to call you.

Henry: Oh, no. You've got that determined look. Where are the tears, Katie? Did you tell Mike the truth?

Katie: I couldn't. You were right.

Henry: Glory be and hallelujah. I was right about what?

Katie: If I told Mike that I was the one driving the car that hit him, it'll only make him feel worse.

Henry: Oh, see? Now, now we're talking -- now.

Katie: He'd probably think that I did it on purpose.

Henry: Oh, no, come on, he wouldn't think that. That's going too far.

Katie: I doubted myself. Why wouldn't Mike?

Henry: You don't really want me to answer that, do you? Okay, look, what's this new look of resolve that you're wearing?

Katie: I made a decision. Since it's my fault that Mike's life has been torn apart, it's up to me to put it back together again, and that's exactly what I'm going to do.

Mike: What's wrong?

Katie: You are. You flew halfway across the world to help me find Simon. You risked your life to protect me. If you think I'm just going to leave you hanging when you need me the most, you've got another think coming. So you better get used to having me around, Mike Kasnoff, 'cause I'm not going anywhere.

Mike: I'm not gonna let you take care of me.

Katie: You don't have a choice.
