Monday, September 10, 2007 Henry discovers some unflattering things about Noah's dad, and picks up on his suspicion about Noah and Luke's relationship. Henry talks to Maddie about it, who of course tells him he's crazy. However it bothers her enough to ask Luke if there's anything going on between him and Noah, and he can't deny it. Thanks to Henry's involvement, Maddie decides to talk to Noah to find out what's really going on. Today’s episode was directed by John O'Connell and written by Jeanne Marie Ford.
Transcripts from TVMegasite Col. Mayer: No, no, don't get me wrong, Henry. Noah's a good kid.Henry: Yeah, yeah, but you didn't like who he was hanging with back home, right? What was wrong with them? They were long-haired hoodlums? Or axe murders? Or the rival service branch? Col. Mayer: No, no, nothing like that. No. Henry: Nothing like which? Look, if this past of Noah's catches up with him while he's living with Maddie, I need to know the details, you know, name, rank, serial number -- Col. Mayer: No, it's nothing --it's nothing that you need to worry about. You have my word on that. Maddie -- Maddie's just been a good influence on my son. That's all I meant to say. Henry: Hey, Luke -- hey, what are you doing? You here to check out the new menu? Luke: Yeah, I'm hearing good things. Henry: All right, great. Have you met the Colonel? Col. Mayer: Yeah, we've met. Excuse me, I -- I need to make some phone calls. Henry: What was that about?
Luke: I guess I rubbed the Colonel the wrong way for some reason. Oh, I just remembered. I've got to talk to this professor about this class I want to audit. Um, I gotta run. Henry: Wait, don't you want to eat? Luke: Oh, I'll be back later. Bye. Henry: Get you some coffee there. Col. Mayer: Oh, thanks. Oh, somebody left their umbrella here. Henry: Oh, actually that's mine. I'm planning a wedding shower for my best friend, Katie. Actually, she works with Noah over at WOAK. Col. Mayer: Your best friend's a woman? Henry: Yeah. Col. Mayer: And she's having a bridal shower here in a diner? Henry: Yeah, it's non-traditional. All right, it's co-ed. Col. Mayer: Oh, I see. Wow, you know, I can't decide what to order. I'm trying to watch my weight -- watch what I eat, but everything looks really good. Henry: Well, we're working on it. Although, it doesn't look like you need to watch what you eat. Col. Mayer: Yeah. I still run three miles every morning. You know, try to stay in fighting shape. You know, I would like to wear my dress blues for Noah's wedding when that day comes. Henry: Wow, you really -- you really plan ahead, don't you? Col. Mayer: Well, yeah, somebody in this family needs to. I mean, when Noah moved here, he didn't know anyone. And he didn't know what he was going to do with his life or beyond this summer. So, that's why I'm really glad he met Maddie. Henry: Yeah, well, she's not his only friend. I mean, Maddie and Noah and Luke -- they're all really tight. Col. Mayer: Yeah, so I understand. Henry: Go to school together, they work together. I think it's great to have a stable group like that that can support one another. Col. Mayer: Stable? That's a matter of opinion. Henry: Yeah, Colonel, I couldn't help but notice a chill in the air when Luke came in. Did he do something to offend you? Col. Mayer: Let's just say I know Luke's type, and I don't want my son to have anything to do with him. You know, I just realized. I'm late for an appointment. Excuse me.
Maddie: Henry! Henry: Hey. Maddie: Hey. Henry: Hey. Let me guess, Noah. I hear good things. Noah: Likewise. Henry: So, you are the reason my baby sis is staying in Oakdale. Noah: And you're the other reason. Henry: I like this guy already. Maddie: My brother has excellent taste. Noah: You know, I'm really sorry to meet and run, but they gave us like a 10-hour window for the dropping off the mattress and I should let the super know he's going to have to sign for it. Maddie: Oh, I can do that. Give you guys some time together. Henry: Actually, Maddie, would you mind sticking around? I'd like to talk to you about something. Maddie: Sure. Noah: Um, okay, I'll see you later. And it was really nice to meet you. Henry: Hey, you too. Take care, okay? Noah: You too. Maddie: Sorry -- sorry that was so quick. We need a plan to get together. Henry: Yeah, why didn't we do it sooner? Maddie: I don't know. You -- you do like him, though, right? Henry: Yeah. In the 10 seconds I talked to him. Sure. He's -- he's a lot different than this father. Maddie: That's a good thing. Henry: Yeah. Maddie: So what did you need to talk to me about? Henry: Well, I was thinking -- if you still want to go to Wesleyan. Vienna and I have the diner now, I think we can swing it. Maddie: You're not making any money at the diner yet. Henry: I know. I just want you to give up on your dreams just because I screwed up. Maddie: Dreams change. And I'm all registered for my classes here, and I found out that I might still be able to work at WOaK, which is fantastic. And it's probably too late to transfer now to Wesleyan anyway. Henry: Who are you trying to convince, Maddie? Me or yourself? Maddie: What's wrong, Henry? You said that Noah seemed nice. You don't like him, do you?
Henry: I had another little chat with Colonel Mayer. Maddie: Did you have your clothes on, this time? Henry: Yes. Actually, this time though, he was the one that was exposed. Maddie: What do you mean? Henry: I mean, he let slip some things that he didn't mean to. And I have to tell you, I don't like what he had to say. Maddie: Well, whatever he said, don't hold that against Noah. Henry: I don't. Here's the thing -- I get -- I get the definite impression that Colonel Mayer has a problem with gay people. Maddie: Really? Well, I'm not so surprised. He has those traditional family values. Henry: Yeah, yeah -- but doesn't that make you uncomfortable? I mean, what about Luke? You two are such good friends. Maddie: Yeah -- and Noah and Luke are really good friends, too. Just because the Colonel feels a certain way about something, doesn't mean that Noah does. Henry: Are you sure about that? Maddie: Why? Henry: It's just -- Colonel Mayer made it very clear that he does not like the idea of Luke and Noah hanging out together. Maddie: Oh. And you're worried, because I am friends with both of them. Henry: Yeah -- Maddie: What, Henry? What? This is like the time you had to tell me about my hamster dying. You made me play the longest game of "20 questions" ever, remember? Henry: I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Maddie: Tell me what's on your mind. Henry: Okay. I -- get to the impression -- the distinct impression -- that the Colonel is afraid there's something going on between Luke and Noah.
Maddie: Just because Noah likes old movies and is really neat with his clothes -- which by the way is a military thing that his father taught him, I mean -- you know what? No. This is ridiculous, okay. I hate stereotypes. Henry: Yeah, so do I. Maddie: I may not have the best track record with guys, and you were just saying that Noah and I were moving too quickly. Now you're trying to tell me -- Henry: Forget it, forget it. Forget I ever brought it up. I'm sorry. Hey, forget it. I've never been so happy to be wrong about anything. And I often am wrong. Maddie: Yeah, no kidding. Must run in the family. Henry: Okay. Hey, you're staying in Oakdale. Lucky me. Maddie: Yeah, and me. Henry: How's the move going? Maddie: We're okay. We're okay. Noah's father gave us some money for furniture. I umm -- feel really weird taking money from him -- Henry: Okay, you need anything, you come talk to me. Maddie: I will. Thank you. Henry: Yeah, for nothing. Thank god.
