Friday, August 2, 2002 Lucinda, Rose and Henry are all staring at Coconut Simon, having just figured out that t0he diamond might be inside. "The Rose of Sharon diamond is in Katie's stupid little coconut!" exclaims Henry in disbelief. He goes for it and grabs a knife but Rose pushes him away and grabs it herself. She notices that the stem part is etched out and pulls it out carefully. Slowly, she dumps the diamond out onto the table saying, "Baby, it's been a long time since I've seen you!" "If I could just hold that for just a second," says Henry as he reaches for it. "Get your stinkin hands away from it!" cries Rose as she picks it up, "You can look, but you cannot touch." "You have no idea how often I hear that," says Henry dismally. Lucinda admits that the diamond is "awesome," but what are they going to do with it now that they've found it? Lucinda explains that even if they hand the diamond over to Mr. Curry (the fake Simon), there's no guarantee he'll hold up his end of the bargain. Henry suggests that they wait for Katie and Paul to get back with the real Simon, "that way we have more people on our team." Lucinda agrees that's a good idea. Then Simon can deal with Mr. Curry, "his ringer," himself. Rose stares at the diamond, saying she can't believe all this fuss over this rock that used to be in her headdress in Atlantic City. "You know I used to own it too," Henry reminds her as he tries to grab it. Rose pulls it away and asks him, "Do you have a problem with the hearing?" Katie and Paul enter the room without Simon. They explain that the dynamite didn't work. Katie laments about her poor Simon going crazy behind bars; she hated to leave him there. She spots the diamond and asks, "Is that what I think it is? Is that my diamond?" "I don't want to nitpick, but it's my diamond, technically," corrects Rose as she clutches it tighter, Paul's arm around her protectively. "Oh no, honey, finders keepers, and I found it at the bottom of the ocean!" protests Katie. "And then you lost it to a seagull," Henry reminds her. "The diamond is mine, ladies, because I was the last one to possess it, and as we all know possession is nine-tenths of the law!" He again grabs for the diamond, and Rose threatens, "Excuse me, next time I'm gonna eat the finger." Lucinda urges them all to focus. Simon is still in jail and Joe is still a hostage. Rose suggests they get more dynamite, and Paul goes to find the always helpful Desi, after he warns Rose to not let the diamond out of her sight. Lucinda suggests they come up with a strategy, saying, "I'm extremely uncomfortable with all of us improvising all of the time." Rose suggest they give Donovan the provenance but not give him the diamond until they get Joe. Katie thinks they should wait until they get Simon out of jail, but Rose says they don't have time to wait. Lucinda asks which one of them is going to do the negotiating with Mr. Curry. They all look at Henry, who says, "Good luck, let me know how it goes," and tries to escape. No luck. "You're on, Henry, and you better not blow it!" warns Rose. "I don't think you ladies grasp the situation," says Henry. "Mr. Donovan Curry, aka the bad Simon, he does not like me. I know that's not an exclusive club, but I don't think that I'm the one that should be delivering the conditions." Lucinda says that since he got them into this mess when he decided to "unaltruistically go after the diamond," he should get them out of it. Henry protests, saying Donovan might want to take another hostage, a healthy one! Rose tells him he's pushing it, and Katie steps in to convince him. "Henry, honey, you've done some sleazy things in your life. Lied. Cheated. Hurt people everywhere you go, pretty much." "Yeah, well, it's what I do," agrees Henry. "I'm no good at sales." Katie continues, telling him this is his chance to be the good guy, the hero. To put his life on the line for others, to wipe the slate clean, and several other cliches. Henry interrupts her and agrees, "anything to keep the violins from playing." "Do you remember what to do?" asks Rose. "Yes, I remember what to do," answers Henry, mimicking her. Give Donovan the provenance, get Joe, then give him the diamond. As he's leaving Katie warns him, "if you double cross us, we'll hunt you down, and it will not be pretty." Henry looks at the three determined women and says, "thank you for reminding me, Katie." After he leaves Rose asks if they should trust him, and Katie answers, "probably not." Lucinda goes to put the diamond in the hotel safe with the provenance, and Rose and Katie commiserate about what it's like to almost lose a loved one. Henry comes down the stairs and tells them, "Sorry, ladies, Mr. Donovan Curry has disappeared." Rose can't believe Donovan would leave since he "had his face carved up for this diamond." Henry tells them to look for themselves, Donovan's room is empty, he even took the towels! Rose wonders what they're going to do. Henry tells her to look on the bright side, she still has the diamond, "for negotiation purposes only." Lucinda comes back and tells them the diamond is secure, and wonders what Henry is doing back so soon. Rose tells her that Donovan checked out, and Lucinda asks Desi if it's true. He says he hopes not, his bills are still unpaid. He goes to check on Donovan's whereabouts. Paul comes back with the dynamite, and Rose tells him about their little problem. Suddenly they notice Donovan standing by the bar. "Is it possible I looked in the wrong room?" wonders Henry. "You're an idiot!" answers Rose. She marches over to Donovan and tells him she's had enough, she wants her Pop back. Donovan tells her she won't get him until she puts the provenance and the diamond, "right there," holding out his hand. Rose spits in his hand and tells him the deal is off, she wants to know that her Pop is alive and well. "I'm the one setting conditions," says Simon as he licks Rose's spit off his hand. He will return her father after he gets the provenance and the diamond. Rose tells him no, she wants to know that her father is all right first. She tells Donovan to bring him here so she can talk to him. Donovan pulls out a knife and says, "I'm through playing games, bring me the diamond or I carve my initials in your heart!"
