Thursday, May 19, 2005 Henry has been threatened by Barbara to keep Katie away from the wedding, but Katie has accepted Jennifer's offer to be her maid of honor. Katie has just come home with an armful of wedding gear. The florist calls with bad news. "Call one of your competitors, then. Those rose petals better be delivered within the hour or you will be facing a lawsuit. Oh, yes, I'm very serious. You have no idea how much this wedding means to me. This is going to be the most important day of my life. This is America. Roses are never out of season. You want me to come down and strip the petals myself? Okay. So they will be delivered? Thank you very much." She hangs up the phone and sees Henry watching her from the stairway. "Henry. Hey, hon. Okay, what do you think? Pink or gray?" she asks, holding out two shoes. "We need to talk," says Henry seriously. "Just, whatever comes to your head. Pink or gray? Ah, forget it -- I'll figure it out while I'm getting ready," says Katie, about to head upstairs. Henry stops her and Katie suddenly realizes he's not dressed for the wedding. She asks him why and he answers, "Because I'm not going to this wedding. Neither are you." "Henry, we can't skip the wedding. We promised we'd be there. I'm the matron of honor," admonishes Katie. "I'm sure they'll manage to get along without you," says Henry. "But why? I don't understand. I thought you wanted them to get married," says Katie, confused. "Oh, I did. I do. They will. Thanks, in part, to all your noble efforts on their behalf. They'll probably name their firstborn Katie," says Henry sarcastically. "I don't want them to name their firstborn Katie. All I want..." begins Katie. "What? What do you want?" demands Henry. "To see this through. I made a commitment," replies Katie. "To me. You made a commitment to me," Henry reminds her. "Which is all the more reason that we need to be there for the wedding, so that I can prove to you...." Henry interrupts her, "I don't need to see Jennifer and Mike get married. I need to see you in the seat next to me on a plane." He hands Katie two tickets to Honolulu. "We never had our honeymoon. I think it's time, don't you?" says Henry. "Henry, this flight leaves in two hours. The wedding doesn't start till 6:00, and then there's the reception," protests Katie. "And if you love me, you'll skip the wedding and you'll get on that plane," challenges Henry. "You want me to walk out on Jennifer and Mike, or you'll fly off to Honolulu without me?" asks Katie. "No, I wouldn't want to go without you," says Henry. "Okay then, Henry. Let's just see this wedding through, and then we'll go to Timbuktu if that's what you want," suggests Katie. "It's not about taking a trip. This is -- this is -- can you, please -- can you just do this for me?" begs Henry. "And let everyone down?" says Katie. "You mean Mike?" asks Henry. "And Jennifer. She did ask me to be the matron of...." "Of honor, I know, you've told like me 20 times, now," sighs Henry. "Why are we fighting?" wonders Katie. "Because I'm sick of this wedding, okay?" says Henry, "And you're not. You're thrilled -- you can't wait to walk down the aisle and look into Mike's eyes." "Mike is not gonna be looking at me," says Katie, "He's going to be looking at Jennifer." "Is that why you told the florist this is the most important day of your life?" questions Henry. "Oh, Henry, I was just trying to get his attention so that he would come through with the rose petals," explains Katie. "And once more, Katie saves the day," says Henry. "Can we talk about what's really going on here?" asks Katie. "I don't know. I don't know. Can we?" counters Henry. "Well, obviously you're angry. And I don't know, I'm sensing a little jealousy?" says Katie. "Katie, for the last few days, you have spent every waking hour sticking your nose into another woman's wedding. You have picked out the music -- and the food -- and the cake. And you've gotten yourself into the wedding party. Why?" asks Henry. "So that you can finally see that I..." Henry interrupts her again, "No, you were hoping that Mike will look over there, see you standing there, and realize he's made a terrible mistake," says Henry. "That is not true," insists Katie. "You were hoping that he will stop the wedding and that he will turn to you, and that he will say -- he will say, 'You know what? I've been wrong this whole time. I love you and I want you back.' That's why you're doing all this, Katie. That's what all this is for. So Mike will realize that he's still in love with you," says Henry. "So, admit it," challenges Henry. "That I want to be there? At the wedding?" asks Katie innocently. "That you want Mike to realize that he's still in love with you. You want him to stop the wedding," says Henry. "No, I don't. I want to see him marry her. I need to see him marry her," says Katie. Henry asks her why. "Because then I'll know that it's really over. If I'm there and I see him take the vows and put that ring on her finger and marry her -- then that last little bit of -- of..." says Katie tearfully. "Hope," says Henry. "No, not hope. Memory. Of the way things were -- the plans we made. It'll just disappear. And I want that so badly. I wanna live in my future and not in my past. I want to look at you and think about you and me and everything that is to come with us. I love you, Henry. And I'm so happy with you," insists Katie. "Then do this -- then do this for me. Do this for us. Okay, let's get on a plane. Let's go to Hawaii. Just the two of us, okay? No memories, no regrets. Just a big, empty beach -- and all the time in the world," offers Henry. "Can you do that for me, Katie? Can you forget about Mike and Jennifer and think about us? I know it's a lot to ask, and I think it's important, though. You see him put the ring on her finger, okay. Then what? You see him baptize the baby, and you're what? The godmother? Then what?" asks Henry. "No, I get it. I get it," says Katie. "Okay, look, we never had a honeymoon. And we're never really together when we got married. But we are now. And we need this time -- we need this time to -- to have fun and, remember how sweet life can be," says Henry. "My life is always sweet with you," says Katie. "I love you, I love you. I love you -- I love you so much. I know -- I know I make you happy. So just do this one for me. Please trust me. Take a risk. Get on that plane with me. You won't regret it," promises Henry. Apparently Katie agreed, because she comes downstairs with a bag and her coat on. Henry comes inside and says, "Hey, Snickers is all packed up and ready to go to the vet." The phone is ringing, and Katie says reluctantly, "The wedding’s probably starting about now." The answering kicks in and Mike leaves a message. "Katie it’s Mike. We’re wondering where you were. Hope you’re okay." Henry asks Katie if she wants to get it, and she says, "No, no let’s just go." They walk out the door and Mike's voice continues. "We’re gonna give it a couple more minutes. Give me a call. We’re all a little worried." Today’s episode was directed by Jennifer Pepperman and written by Elizabeth Page.
