Wednesday, May 11, 2005 Henry and Katie are at Metro, working on a photo collage of Mike and Jen for their surprise engagement party. "Ah. It's little Mike and little Jennifer," says Henry. "Aren't they so adorable?" coos Katie. Standing behind them, Alison says, "Can't you see them as little Pampers babies? Mike with his little tool belt and Jen with her little sketchpad. These aren't the only two pictures, though, are they?" Katie says she has more in her car, and Alison offers to go get them. "Oh, Mike and Jennifer before destiny brought them together," says Katie about their baby pictures. "I'm going to vomit," jokes Henry. "Henry!" Katie reprimands him. "Sweetheart, save the hearts and flowers for the happy couple, okay?" says Henry bitterly, sitting down at the table. "You don't think I mean it?" asks Katie. "It doesn't matter what I think. It only matters what Jennifer and Mike think," replies Henry. "Well, I'm not letting those two write me off just because I made one stupid mistake," insists Katie. "Yeah. That mistake had more consequences than Pandora opening that pesky box of hers," observes Henry. "Well, hopefully, this party will put Mike and Jennifer in a forgiving mood and we never have to talk about it again," declares Katie. "Honey, I don't think a couple of canapes and a glass of champagne is going to erase the memory of you blabbing to Craig about Jennifer's due date and then not fessing up to it," says Henry. "Well, that's where you're wrong, Henry. The champagne and food are not what's going to seal the deal. It's the love behind the effort," explains Katie. "Love for whom?" questions Henry. "Both of them. Mike and Jennifer, together," says Katie. "I'm sure Jen's liable to buy that one," says Henry sarcastically. "If I were still pining after for Mike, would I really be throwing this surprise engagement party for them? Of course not. Finally, Jennifer can realize that I am not her enemy," smiles Katie. Alison comes downstairs with some balloons. Katie explains that she asked Paul to invite Mike and Jen to dinner at Metro. "So, we're all just going to jump out and yell, Surprise?" clarifies Henry. "That's the plan," says Katie, and Ally says she loves it. "I hope the other patrons are as enthusiastic," mutters Henry. "Who doesn't love a free party? I'm going to tie these to the edge of the bar," says Alison as she excuses herself. "You're not on board with this, are you? Not really," Katie says to Henry. "Now I have always been your first mate, haven't I?" asks Henry. "Yeah, but you don't think this is going to work," guesses Katie. "I think they'll be surprised. I don't know what happens after that. I mean, are you going to be fine if it doesn't go the way you want?" asks Henry. "You know what? If Mike and Jen can't find it in their hearts to forgive me after all of this, then I give up," says Katie. "You give up? Who are you and where have you hidden my indefatigable wife?" asks Henry. "I'm not kidding, Henry. I apologized. I explained myself. So if they can't give me a break after I've gone to all this trouble? Then there's nothing else I can do," sighs Katie. "So you're okay. You're telling me you're okay if Mike and Jen walk out of your life forever?" questions Henry. "Yeah. Yeah, I'm okay with it," says Katie. Will comes in and gives them some pictures of Jen. Katie thanks him, and Will sadly says he never looks at them anyway. Katie is putting the finishing touches on the collage. "The minutes just creep by, don't they?" she says. "Yeah, you think we could take five and go home to change into some party clothes?" suggests Henry. "No, I need to finish this. What do you think about that one for the middle of the whole thing?" asks Katie. "I don't know. What do you think about this?" says Henry. He reaches for a photo and knocks over his drink, which ruins the picture. "Oh!" cries Katie in dismay. "Henry, you've picked a perfect time to swear off martinis. Look at this. It's totally ruined. This was supposed to be the perfect picture of the couple in the middle of the whole piece," wails Katie. "I know, I know, I know. I'm sorry, honey. No one's gonna notice, though. They're all going to be congratulating the happy couple," Henry assures her. "I wanted everything to be perfect," sighs Katie. "Well, is there another picture you can substitute?" suggests Alison. "Not here. But I know where I can get one," says Katie, "Mike and Jen's place. I know the perfect scrapbook to look through." "Do you think they left by now?" asks Henry. "Yes, Paul said he was going to invite them over for a drink first. So if I hurry...." says Katie, grabbing her keys and running toward the door. "Wait. Whoa, whoa! What are you gonna do? Are you gonna break into their house?" asks Henry. "Of course not. Oh, I know where Mike hides the key. So I'll be right back. For you, my sweet," says Katie. Henry is not pleased. Today’s episode was directed by Michael Eilbaum and written by Judy Tate.
